WHAT gives me the confidence to say it’s easy?

My answer is that it takes nothing more than time and hard work – it’s not a get rich quick scheme – but it is a “clear path” based on following certain guidelines.

You don’t need a college degree or any special training – although it helps if you can read and write.

Certainly education is always important – but intelligence and education are not interdependent – which is fortunate for many of us who did not go to college.

One added reason that gives me the confidence to say that making a living online works is that I registered some domain names over 10 years ago and now have a few domain names with the potential to become websites that can attract visitors. They have increased in value over the years without any development. But this chapter is not about domain names except to say that it helps to have a name that means something to more people than just a handful of close friends and family.

Nothing is sadder for me then to see someone register a name for $10 with the intention that a lot of people will flock to visit the website that they build using the name. There’s nothing wrong with joeblowswebsite.com

But very few people are interested in Joe Blow – yet joe.com or blow.com are a different story. Type them in and see what comes up.

My point is that the road to online success is much smoother if you have a name with intrinsic meaning that consists of key words that have potential or real advertising value.

One of my names is AquariumHoods.com – a little long and pretty meaningless to most people right? WRONG!

Advertisers who sell aquarium hoods are paying as much as $1.55 per click for ads placed on AquariumHoods.com which is what the key word pair “aquarium” and “hoods” currently costs. Advertisers pay the publisher (website owner) each time someone clicks on their ad to visit their website.
Often google adsense is the master publisher thru whom the money flows – and anyone with a website can place google adsense ads on their site and make a few pennies.

If you have a website that is already getting 1000 visitors a day – you can make more than a few pennies.

The cost to an advertiser is called CPC or Cost Per Click – and the other side of the coin is the domain owner – for whom the $1.55 is EPC or Earnings Per Click.

Simple right? Right!

However, there are some roadblocks to being successful. First you need a domain name that consists of meaningful keywords – actually that’s not so hard but may require an intitial investment in a domain name if you don’t have one already.
