Instead of a job every human being should ideally have the opportunity to fill a role of their choosing.
Working and jobs are not synonymous.
Roles are the same as jobs but there is no direct owner or business relationship and roles are created based on the desire of the role player and their need to fulfill their role.
A social worker acts as the proxy between the role players and the role providers.
One of the basic tenants of positive reinforcement is the fact that when you do something you like to do and want to do … you likely will do it right. My roles theory is based on this assumption to be effective.
So for example a dentist would fill a role based on location and need ….. if there were a surplus of dentists in a given area they could fill a role anywhere else there was a need. Those who do so reluctantly for money are employees and those who do so willingly with passion are workers. Are the results the same?
Roles should not be confined to a geographical area and should be filled based on needs to balance supply and demand.
For this purpose there would exist simple roles grid folding up into one master grid administered by a human council such as the United Nations.
The use of roles is my utopian concept and will naturally evolve as the planets human governing systems meld together and as natural resources must be balanced against human population needs. The desire for profit is naturally eliminated to coincide with the elimination of need.
Roles will naturally replace jobs over time since there will always remain fluctuating human population needs to be filled.
There is an immediate need for roles in today’s society as it pertains specifically to the segments of society who are disadvantaged and deprived
The roles solution is simple, fast ….. and cost effective.
Rather than taking a long term expensive rehabilitative approach ending in forced labor or jobs, the goal is to evaluate what human skills inventory already exists and then ask the individual which roles they would like to fill. Then the role counselor or social worker and individual would narrow down to a role that can be filled immediately.
Plans to advance to other related roles would evolve. Role player role counselor progress meetings would clarify prerequisite roles at the same time providing a social ladder.
Individuals can be prescreened so that the roles needed are matched to the roles available and made known to the role counselor aka social worker.
For example: roles suitable for a high school drop out without skills might be stocking shelves, pumping gas, washing dishes, mowing lawns, painting houses etc what remains is to establish personal willingness and motivation and personal goals.
Each role would be tracked by the individual and counselor and as the individual acquired new skills and knowledge other related roles would be linked in for further on the job training.
The key is establishing the “no fail” mechanism … the individual cannot assume a role that they would fail at; not by denial and punishment but by avoidance.
The key factor with roles is the desire of the individual to fill the role … and the absence of immediate training and rehabilitation where unskilled workers are concerned.
When needed the Government can subsidize the entity for which the role is being fulfilled …. i.e the organization or the business owner.
What is important is that the number of available vacant roles is accurately forecast based on needs. Thus gratification is instant …. and the individual merely begins to fill the role and is rewarded without the need to fail and be demoralized.
This is very important given the understandably complex social backgrounds of we human role players.
Multiple roles can be developed for unwed mothers, teenage parents, drug addicts and all socially disadvantaged individuals.
So for example a young parent can learn the role of a parent while filling the role of providing for the family. Presumably willingly and with a sense of fulfillment.
This restructuring of human needs is evolutionary yet essential for the survival of life on earth.
Humanity has disregarded the role that time plays in effecting change. Thus there is nothing to counterbalance rapid changes resulting in the chaos of today.
Roles and not jobs, are the future of our human society if there is to be one.
